How to Explore an Article as an Essay

Strong research and essay writing skills are important for success in academic level. A common type of essay writing task is an article analysis essay, purpose is to evaluate the arguments and ideas presented in the article. Normally essays are encompassed of an introduction part, two or three supporting paragraphs and a conclusion. A well stated thesis of an essay tells the reader what to expect from the rest of the paper as well as solid research to support the thesis.

Research and Notes

Step i.
Read the article carefully and take notes with your essay in mind. Highlight meaningful passages and think critically about what you are reading.

Step ii.
Look into other sources to support main points of your essay and to collect ideas. They may have ideas that you can use to get a good understanding of the article you are writing about. 

Step iii.
Analyze the points and arguments that you have gathered. Think and form your own opinions about the topic.

Pre-Write

Step i.
Write one thesis statement or concise sentence, that precise your thinking. 

Step ii.
Write at least three main points that support your thesis. 

Step iii.
Find at least one quote related to the content that backs up each point that you have. It could be from the article itself or might be one you found in your research. 

Write and Edit

Step i.
Write an introduction to the essay which includes relevant information about the article and came up in your research. Then lead into the thesis statement usually which is the last sentence of the section.

Step ii.
Use the topic sentences you created to outline the three supporting paragraphs. Be certain that each topic sentence should act as a base for the rest of the paragraph and should sum up each paragraph's content.

Step iii.
Construct a final concluding paragraph that should restate your main points in a new way. It does not have to be long and is better to have only a few sentences in length.

Edit your essay and ask someone else to review it as well. Read through your essay, checking for flaws and errors in logic.
